I promise not to write about everyday- just the important ones. January 16th I had my scan scheduled for 10:00am. I wasnt overally nervous and had convinced myself I most likely had breast or ovarian cancer. My ct scan was quick-20 mins max. My mom and I stopped at Barnes and Noble and dunks. I hadn't left dunks when I saw that I had the results, I promised myself I would wait to here from the doctor before I declared myself competent to understand the results. the doctor called shortly after noon and confirmed his suspicions- Stage IV lung cancer. I also acquired a list of upcoming appointments during that phone call.. First was the following day to see the pulmonologist, I'd have a few days off but then would have a biopsy, meet with my oncologist, the radiation oncologist, a second opinion. My biopsy was scheduled for that Friday so they could stage my cancer and look for mutations. A week later (a short but very long 10 days since I had been initially diagnosed) I met with my oncologist. He was waiting for the biopsy but hopeful it would come up with the "good lung cancer". My treatment depending on if and what mutation I had. The next day he called to tell me I had the "good kind of lung cancer." My official diagnosis was Stage IV lung cancer with efgr exon 19 mutation. A miracle pill would help keep the cancer from growing and hopefully decrease the size. Tagrisso is the only cancer medication that will work through the spinal fluid. I would start it as soon as I had approval from my insurance.
