Bon Jovi sings “The more things change the more they stay the same.” It’s such a true statement. Our lives are constantly changing. My families life changed with the three words you have cancer. Our lives changed in a heartbeat. They continue to change with every appointment.
I have friends that told me when I was diagnosed that they will always be there but then it’s crickets. I’ve had friends that I never knew I had that have been there since my diagnosis. Then I have friends who know about my diagnosis that have never reached out. It’s times like a terminal diagnosis that you learn who your true friends are. Who’s really in your corner. It’s not always your life long friends, it’s not always the coworkers that you were there for, sometimes it’s the least expected that have always been there and offered a hand.
When I hear the song The More Things Change I realize how true it is with people. You should always trust your instinct. It’s okay to walk away from a friendship if it’s not giving you want and need. It’s okay to protect yourself. Because the more things change, the more they stay the same. People say they are going to change…but do they really???
On another note: we visited with our old neighbor yesterday. It was great catching up! The kids played like it hadn’t been years since we saw each other. ”I” gave Trent his nickname. And to this day I still call him Trent Buddy. This evening we ran to get ice cream and ran into another old neighbor! We loved seeing them for a hot minute. And I realized after we should have gotten a picture of the kids. Although “C” isn’t a kid anymore. She’s sooo grownup! I have no idea where the time went. Hopefully I can get my act together to have them all over for a cookout.
