Today I started the second part of my infusion. I knew going into that there was a high chance I would have an allergic reaction. Which is why they give it over two day. a little the first day and the rest the second Day. I got all my premeds and was ready to go starting around 10:00-10:30. 5 mins into the new meds my face started feeling hot. I called the nurse over and at this point my chest was tight. They unhooked me and started on steroids and other meds. More Benadryl, anti nausea meds. I started to feel better. It was decided we would try again but at half the dose for a half hour. If I could handle that they would increase it to the regular dose.
I did fine on the half dose and slept through it. So after the half hour we increased it back to 50ml over 2 hours. 5 mins in it felt like someone was sitting on my chest again so it was stopped. This time I got an epi pen and they called it a day. Well except I went to the er for observation and tests. My heart function was checked and everything turned out good.
I can not thank the oncology nurses at Lahey enough! They were on the ball and took care of everything! I felt completely safe at all times.
the plan now is increase my steroids before the next session and hold off on the next session until Wednesday. So now we wait and now we don’t stress.
